Can someone who's capable of it please caption Games With Hank more consistently?

To say it's "low priority" to the point that the channel goes weeks without new captions being added is to say that it's "low priority" for the D/HoH community to be included in enjoying that channel.

DFTBA,

A disappointed, profoundly deaf, game-loving nerdfighter :/

kitchensink108 on 2014 Nov 12 20:15

Sorry about that. We usually don't have a lot of transcribers here, so we've tried to prioritize the "main" channels (e.g. vlogbrothers) over the side channels (e.g. hankgames), but I understand that leaves people out who prefer the channels that aren't getting as much attention.

As far as just getting the videos transcribed here, I'll raise the priority for them a bit in the hopes that they get more attention. runalovegood also mentioned she'll try to put time into getting Games With Hank transcribed, so I'm hoping that'll start to make a difference.

If you're looking at getting in-video captions, I'll have to talk with Valerie about that. I'm not sure if she (or anyone at the moment) deals with in-video captions for Games With Hank or Hankgames.

Thanks for the feedback, though. It's messages like these that help me get an idea of who's using the site and how they're using it, which helps me a lot in deciding what I need to work on.

Hi.

I'd like to help translating scripts into German but I don't get how the texts are added to the video.

I have the feeling the texts are not implemented. For example "The Nucleus: Crash Course Chemistry #1" (http://nerdfighteria.info/video/52/FSyAehMdpyI) was translated into German completely, for months now. But there are not German subtitles available on the video.

Whose task is that?

Greetings, Julika7

kitchensink108 on 2014 Nov 12 19:56

Translations are a little tricky. Although the wiki supports just translating the English text to German, Youtube needs the transcript to be timed (timestamps next to each sentence) in order to have on-video captions.

Timed translations have been handled at subtitl.us (e.g. chemistry.subtitl.us), but there's not a lot of traction on that.

However, for Crash Course: Chemistry, there's actually a new feature Youtube added so users can translate captions directly on Youtube. Check out the EffYeahNerdfighters post about captions, and see the Crash Course section for directions on how that works.

It's all kind of a complicated situation, which is unfortunate. Let me know if you have any other questions, or you can contact Valerie as she officially handles the captions of Crash Course, SciShow, and other channels.

http://nerdfighteria.info/video/109/PtqlU_wT-oo John talks about Hank's video about facebook, which might be missing. Maybe I just didn't look hard enough though.

kitchensink108 on 2014 Nov 09 23:31

I believe Hank actually removed that video. He posted a video about the Facebook IPO, but I think sometime later he deleted the video for unknown reasons (inaccuracies, controversial, maybe something else).

Hi, everyone! I've been looking over some of the Brotherhood 2.0 transcripts and I noticed that most of them skip the intro music. I would think that there should be someting like "[Brotherhood 2.0 opening theme]" at the beginning. However, all of the ones I've looked at are missing that so it's consistent the way it is, and some of them are locked, so there would be no way for all of them to have that opener. Would it be best to prioritize accuracy and have it on some but not others or to prioritize consistency and leave it off all of them? Thanks!

non sequitur on 2014 Nov 09 20:45

Hi Tracy

If you want to change all of the Brotherhood 2.0 videos to include the intro music I would me more than happy to unlock them for you :)

Hi Nerdfighters,

I'm new to this wiki so I'm not quite sure how everything works. I really want to get the How to Adult videos to have great captions available on Youtube. I have noticed that either the captions are not available on Youtube or they aren't correctly shown ( no offense to anyone who has worked on it) .

Is there something that I can do to help out with this?

RobloxianNerdfighter on 2014 Nov 07 05:36

Unfortunately, no. I have asked a similar question here before, and I got the answer of: Transcripts are manually reviewed by Valerie before being added to the videos as captions, so in that sense, no, you can't directly add captions to the videos.

kitchensink108 on 2014 Nov 07 20:04

This actually goes a little bit further than that, as Valerie doesn't upload captions for How to Adult. Valerie did mention that Mike Martin may be handling captions for the channel, but at the moment I'm not in contact with him, so I don't know if he's regularly adding captions and, if so, if he gets the transcripts from here.

runalovegood on 2014 Oct 26 21:21

Hey, so, I know Games With Hank/hankgames aren't usually high-priority transcripts, but I had a question about them anyways.  I've seen some transcribers add the game audio in italics or whatever, and others just type what Hank's saying, and I was wondering if one of these methods was preferable to the other?  Thanks!

videodude13 on 2014 Oct 27 09:38

I think it depends on the situation and the game. I would put in the game's audio when it's important to the story/Hank or John respond to it such as in The Stanley Parable or Five Nights at Freddy's. I wouldn't put it in for general audio such as what the commentators say in the AFC Wimbledon Wimbly Womblys, unless John responds to what they say. I hope this helps.

"VidCon Madness with Hank Green, Joey Graceffa, iJustine and More!" under Misc Vidoes is 98% finished.

A couple of Youtubers need identifying, which i'm not that great at, any help to get it finished would be great :)

videodude13 on 2014 Oct 25 22:28

Just finished it for you.

hrebele on 2014 Oct 18 00:12

The "lock" function seems to diable proofreading/editing. If anyone gets a chance to fix "The Seven Years War:CrashCourse World History #26" - John said "Je ne veux pas l'Anglais". I'm not entirely sure he was correct, but it was certainly much better than "Je ne vais pas l'Anglais" (which I'm pretty sure would mean "I don't go the English"). Thanks! DFTBA

non sequitur on 2014 Oct 18 10:19

I unlocked it and fixed it :)

Thanks for picking up on it!

amaranthangel on 2014 Oct 16 22:35

So I'm new here and was wondering if there's any sort of tutorial for how to transcribe? I realize it's probably really simple, but I get nervous that I'm going to mess something up by clicking the wrong thing or something......

kitchensink108 on 2014 Oct 17 13:07

There's a guide here which may help you. I'd also suggest looking at existing transcripts to get a feel for what they should be like. Let me know if you have any other questions!

RobloxianNerdfighter on 2014 Oct 15 22:34

Is there a way to manually add captions to the video on YouTube? Just wondering.

isault on 2014 Oct 16 00:03

On someone else's channel? It doesn't seem so yet. I'm transcribing for a channel because YouTube hasn't allowed other people to CC videos.

civet on 2014 Oct 16 09:39

There was something about this on the eff yeah tumblr  http://effyeahnerdfighters.com/post/99671374754/video-transcriptions-and-translations

on that note, is there someplace we can sign up if we're manually putting in the captions for a given video? Just to keep people from working on the same vid at the same time and stuff.

kitchensink108 on 2014 Oct 16 14:38

Transcripts are manually reviewed by Valerie before being added to the videos as captions, so in that sense, no, you can't directly add captions to the videos. As civet said, you can check out the FYNF post about a new captioning feature directly on Youtube, but captions created that way still need to be approved before becoming active.

In re: civet's question, if you're working on the captions directly on Youtube, there's no sign up form (here or on YT) to let people know you're working on a video. If you're transcribing the video here on the wiki, there's a warning message that should warn anyone else that goes to that transcript that a user is already editing it.
