I don't seem to be able to to add the '2014 vlogs' category onto vlogs. '2015 vlogs' is working fine, but some vlogs don't have a category on them stating the year...
I've just been through all the 2014 Vlogbrothers videos and added "2014 Vlog" to any I thought were missing it. Are there any other that, in your opinion, need this category?
I have a few requests regarding the transcription schedule:
Would it be a good idea for admins to be allowed to edit schedules? For example, the Animal Wonders schedule still says Friday though they've switched to Thursday a while back (same with HCT now being on Mondays), and Crash Course English Literature should be changed to World History.
Also, should there be a protocol for when it's appropriate to clear schedules? Say, after four weeks of inactivity? If volunteers no longer have the time, maybe it's better for there to be new ones.
I've thought about adding the ability to edit a schedule. In the past, I've decided against it, because people sign up for the days they're available. That is, if someone signs up to transcribe on Friday, they might not be available Thursdays to transcribe. So it makes things a little simpler to just clear the schedule and start from scratch.
That could be debated, though, so let me know if you think it would make more sense to make it editable.
I think it would be a good idea to have some kind of protocol for clearing schedules. A month of inactivity would work. You could also use the Transcription Stats page for each channel to see how long it's to get videos transcribed, and make a judgment based on that. That wouldn't work for all schedules, though.
I guess that makes sense... Would it be possible, then, to send a email whenever a schedule is updated, telling them of the update and giving them the chance to opt-out?
It just seems to me that if the weekly notifications just stop, then few people would notice and come back to the schedules page to re-sign up.
Yeah, I think I can do something like that. I'm not quite sure when I'll be able to (and I'm still trying to figure out why the server isn't sending emails 100% of the time), but I'll try to get something in place for that.
For the time being, though, I've cleared all the old Crash Course stuff - there seems to be a spike in new users, so the new schedules will hopefully be filled quickly.
Will there ever be any new transcripts for Games with Hank? It seems like it's been a long time since anyone's transcribed one of the videos on that channel, and there's still lots of videos that need it...I'm hearing impaired and so sadly I can't contribute to the transcription process myself.
I'd like to get Games With Hank completely transcribed. And with the current hiatus on new videos, it's a really good time to get that done. So I'm definitely going to try getting more of that transcribed in the near future. That said, I can't give a timetable for when all the current GHW will be transcribed.
I saw this probem and I will work on the assasins creed ones next, but my schdual is crazy right now. It took me half an hour to do 8 min of one of the videos, so I will jsut keep picking away at them. the only thing i am not sure about is some of the names (i am admitedly not the greatest speller I will admit) so sorry if I get them wrong I am flagging the ones that I do not see comming up on the screen so that thers can look at it later.
I put out a call for more Games With Hank transcribers, and runalovegood and I are working on it ourselves, so hopefully we'll start to make a dent in the transcription backlog now.
I've been transcribing a lot of videos lately and I've noticed that spell-check doesn't think that "watch" is a word most of the time. Which seems a bit, you know, strange to me. Is there someway to fix it? I mean, I'm pretty sure I'm not misspelling that word.
It's a word in the approved dictionary, so I'm not sure why that's happening. If it's still going on, can you send me the link to a video where it's happening? Thanks!
For example: At the bottom of this video: http://nerdfighteria.info/video/54/rxJ12d1K7-I/1 it's underlined when I press spell-check. Or if I type it right here, watch, then it underlines it in red.
It doesn't do it for me. Does it happen to anyone else?
I've tried reproducing this issue, but it's not happening for me either. It could be a browser-related issue or some other incompatibility. Have you noticed it happening with any other words, or just "watch"?
The March Family Letters needs to be a category under adaptations. It's right now being posted under Emma. Along with that Pemberley Digital has created a second channel where they post extras of their stuff called Pemberley Digital 2. It would probably make sense to tack them on to whatever series the extra is a part of instead of another channel, but that's just my suggestion. They currently are not posted. Sorrry to seem demanding, just trying to inform. DFTBA!
I agree with you. I think the only person who can add entire channels is kitchensink108 who runs the website. It's ultimately up to them.
The March Family Letters is now officially on the wiki. Pemberley Digital 2 videos aren't added automatically yet. I'll need to put a little more time into figuring out how best to handle those videos.
How do I use the = sign to make a time stamp? Do I just press = and then the time stamp will appear (which isn't happening). If not, how is it useful/how I use it?
That feature might be broken at the moment. If you'd like to insert a timestamp, you can manually type it like this:
(3:55)
This will automatically create a link to that point in the video. Using timestamps is completely optional. They're useful, especially for longer videos and videos that have distinct sections/scenes, but the majority of transcripts don't have them.
Can we get a general credits category of something like "various nerdfighters" or whatever because pretty much all the vlogbrothers videos that don't have credits are composed of nerdfighters doing things, and it seems silly not to have that be a credit.
I was wondering if there's any way to delete my account on here? I haven't been on here in almost a year and I never hame time to transcribe anyway since I'm always busy with school work or something else. I really love this community and I'm sorry that I'm too busy to help, but I just figured that my account is basically useless if I'm never gonna use it.
So is there any way to delete it?
I can delete it if you like. Are you sure you want to delete your account?
We can delete/deactivate your account if you'd like. There are a lot of users that come and go, however, so you're definitely not the only one that used to help out but no longer has the time. Keeping your account alive but never using it doesn't hurt anything on our end.
Sorry if I'm not posting this in the right place, I'm a little confused about how this works.
So I was watching the first Crash Course Psychology video, and I noticed the only captions were the (inaccurate) automatic ones. So I started adding some in the Contribue subtitles and CC area of the video on Youtube. But then I found this website. I can see that you guys have transcribed a huge number of videos already, but (at least for the first Psychology video) they aren't actually set as captions on Youtube itself. Basically I'm wondering, is it worth it to complete the captioning? (I'm about 2 minutes in, and I've set them to the correct times and everything so far.) Would I be able to use the transcription already here and set it to the video on Youtube? Or is there really no reason to? (I just don't want to spend too much more time on it for no reason, haha.)
Anyway, sorry again if I am posting this incorrectly. Great job on transcribing the videos so far, I am amazed at how many are done!
Thanks for reading.
The captions are added to the videos by Valerie. It's a manual process, and it can take a while (there's a huge backlog of captions that need to be added).
So if you can keep transcribing, that would be great. You may not see your work on the videos for a while, but it'll get there eventually. The transcripts here are also useful in other ways (e.g. some teachers like to point their students to the transcripts).
Hi, I just started transcribing videos and I'm wondering if there is a standard for whether or not to include things like uh, and things like stutters on channels like Hankgames and the old hangouts where everything's improvised.
Try to include "uh" and such only so long as the sentence is still readable. So if John says "I, uh, don't know what just happened, that'd be fine. But if he said "And that, uh, wasn't what, uh, was, uh, supposed to happen," that's a little too difficult to follow.
But if in doubt, go ahead and skip the them, as it's better to be readable than to be 100% accurate.
