In addition to The Warehouse, I've also found youtube.com/user/mfhangout/, where mental_floss archives its weekly hangouts on Google+ - I think these hangouts should be put on the mental_floss channel page.
Bobidou23 on 2013 Sep 25 03:51
...and now "theartassignment". Though there won't be actual videos for a while, I believe.
AyoDftba on 2013 Sep 25 17:35
Not until early 2014 though.
Bobidou23 on 2013 Oct 01 04:03
youtube.com/user/thehealthcaretriage!!! So many new shows... Should we split up "Educational" into John/Hank-run and those run by others?
kitchensink108 on 2013 Oct 02 17:22
Yeah, "Educational" should probably get split up somehow. I'm not sure how, though. We could do J&H and non-J&H, but that could get confusing with things like mental_floss and maybe even theartassignment. It might just come down to choosing something like J&H/non-J&H and going with it, without spending too much time worrying about which category a channel falls under best.
Bobidou23 on 2013 Oct 03 01:43
Would it be possible for these four channels to be added, though? Unless of course someone has an objection.
kitchensink108 on 2013 Oct 04 14:03
Just added healthcaretriage, theartassignment, dftbarecords, and activated emmaapproved. I didn't do anything with the organization of the channels yet, I just added everything to the existing channel groups. I had to change a lot of the menu styles so that the new channel names would fit, so let me know if there are any issues with that.

Hey guys,
in the videos you know how there are links sometimes? Well yeah can't there be like a way for us to go to those links and see them WITHOUT going to YouTube first? So yeah if an admin could just like make those links accessible without us having to go to YouTube - I'm not an admin btw - so yeah

Hi Everyone!
For the "Sarah Urist Green" artlice, regarding the "Yeti Sightings" list should the video of John Green discussing abolshing pennies with Predident Obama be added?
I believe this sighting occured between Carnegie Hall and My Drunk Kitchen: Pizza John

It should! Go ahead and add it—it's a wiki. :)
This did, however, happen well after Carnegie Hall.

Actually Nate, on the "The Yeti" article it already says that she was seen in the Obama Google+ Hangout.
stephenwade on 2013 Sep 23 18:53
Perhaps those two articles should be merged? I don't know how to go about that.
216.x.x.146 on 2013 Sep 23 19:07
Yeah it's possible. But then again we could just put the same info on both articles. How 'bout it guys?
kitchensink108 on 2013 Sep 24 14:15
"The Yeti" article will now use content from the "Sarah Urist Green" article.
Note: Apparently there's an issue where HTML gets stripped out on the child entry. I'll fix this soon.

Yeah apparently that issue where the web address just gets stripped out has been going on for quite a while. Thanks for fixing it kitchen.

I had an idea regarding translating videos: maybe we could team up so that someone who is fluent in English and has some experience in another language could write a rough translation, and someone else who is native/fluent in the other language but perhaps not fluent in English could clean up the translation. This way translations could be done by people who are not entirely fluent in both languages, especially as John and Hank's speech is sometimes very fast or slurred.
For example, I have some experience with French and could write a rough translation but it would need to be reviewed before use. A fluent French-speaker could then fix grammar issues with the draft and ask questions if meaning is not clear, and then could post the final translation.
I'm not sure how this could be facilitated; perhaps with a forum where people post rough drafts which need editing?
This, of course, if we don't have enough people who are fluent in both English and other languages; if so then I suppose it would not be necessary.

216.x.x.146 on 2013 Aug 11 18:50
Just Google Translate it
216.x.x.146 on 2013 Aug 11 18:53
Please tell me you're joking. Any person who has a basic knowledge of any language can tell you that google translate it shit. Though I must admit, I got a kick out of their translations of lorem ipsum.
plasticblue94 on 2013 Aug 11 21:23
If it was as simple as Google Translating we would not need translators here or anywhere. My professors never stop telling us NOT to use it.
kitchensink108 on 2013 Aug 13 12:40
This would work well. You could have one person write an initial transcript, who then sends it to someone else to clean up and mark as complete. The translation project as a whole works better with teams of volunteers. I think it was a team of Brazilian nerdfighters who were taking these a step further and coming up with their own "official" translations of nerdfighter terms/slang.
This something that probably needs more discussion, as it'd be helpful to have a place where groups of translators can organize. I think this was being done to a certain extent at Our Pants, but I don't know the current status of that.

AyoDftba on 2013 Sep 23 19:22
Coming back to the translations of videos and things in general, should there be like foreign versions of the entire wiki as well? Like the whole wiki in Thai or Japanese or etc. Just for the people that say can't understand English or maybe we could just have translations of each page in the wiki? So what'd ya guys think?
kitchensink108 on 2013 Sep 24 13:58
I think for now translated versions of wiki entries should just be added to the wiki page. So you'd have the main English section, and after that you might have a Spanish translation, followed by a Dutch translation.
If that gets used enough, I can code it so translations become their own separate entries (like video transcripts are done).

I'm not sure where the line should be drawn, but organizations like the HPA could have their own page, sure.

Sorry if this has been addressed before but since Hank doesn't do Song Wednesdays anymore should we make a new category for his songs or should we just change " Song Wednesdays" to just "Songs" ?

I like keeping it as "Song Wednesdays." Technically it's not as accurate, but it sounds better.

The previous Nerdfighteria Newsletters, I've noticed, link to files on this website - as no such file exists yet for today's, I've linked to the "View this email in your browser" link in the email - for the future, should I continue to do that, or basically just wait for kitchensink108 to create the file?
kitchensink108 on 2013 Aug 29 17:50
I plan on contiunuing to add the files to the wiki myself. You can add the "view this email" link if you'd like, though I'll change them to point to a local copies of the newsletter at some point.
Bobidou23 on 2013 Aug 23 15:27
The new mental_floss series notably not featuring either John or Hank... what to do? They seem to have nothing to do with Nerdfighteria other than that they share a channel/magazine with John/Hank.
AyoDftba on 2013 Aug 23 18:02
Then don't put them on here.
stephenwade on 2013 Aug 24 22:53
My first thought is to include them for the same reason as transcribing all of the wheezynews video Hank was in, but the Dos Equis sponsorship is bothering me a bit. Do we want to be promoting beer? Does anyone else care? If not, I say we go ahead and transcribe it.
Bobidou23 on 2013 Aug 26 03:56
That's interesting... I think, though, the difference between here and wheezywaiter is that here we have the option of deactivating the video entirely.
kitchensink108 on 2013 Aug 26 13:57
I'm not entirely sure how to deal with that yet. For now I'm going to keep it as it is, but if non-Hank/John videos start flooding the mental_floss channel (which this 8-part series might) then we can start deactivating them if we feel it's appropriate.
As for the beer promotion, I don't plan on getting involved with that. I'm not sure it's particularly worse than John talking about Strawberry Hill wine, and if John/Hank are fine working with a channel that has beer companies sponsor their videos, I'll defer to their judgment on that.
