The Brain Scoop is a channel presented by Emily Graslie, previously the volunteer Curatorial Assistant for the Philip L. Wright Zoological Museum at The University of Montana, now working in the Chicago Field Museum of Natural History.
The channel first came into being after Hank visited the museum and was given a tour by Emily. In Hank's words, he "saw her enthusiasm and how comfortable she was on camera, and the depth of her knowledge, and also got a lot of comments from people telling me to make her have her own YouTube show".
The channel is presented by Emily, and used to be filmed and edited by Michael Aranda (http://youtube.com/channel/michaelaranda) but is now filmed and edited by Tom McNamara.
The show's 'mascot' is a stuffed raccoon from the Wright Museum's collection. It has appeared in every scripted video to date, even if just in the background, and has been dubbed the 'Soon Raccoon' due to it often being shown with a caption of the word 'SOON' in all-caps.
