Hello and welcome to another edition of Truth or Fail where today we're talking about my brother's favorite unit of currency: the penny. I'm lying. John, of course, has made it one of the missions of his life to rid the country of the one cent piece. And I am a supporter of this because the penny is ridiculous. I mean if the US sold pennies at cost you couldn't buy one with a penny. Two pennies wouldn't even be enough to buy a penny these days. And seriously when citizens across the land willingly leave their pennies on the counter top for the next person to deal with, that unit of currency has probably run its course. But just because the penny is terrible doesn't mean that there isn't a lot of awesome trivia associated with it. So reward yourself with a nickel for every answer you get correct. Let's play.

Round number one: Penny design.

Fact number one: Abraham Lincoln has graced the front side of the one cent coin since 1909. But did you know that congress first attempted to create a Lincoln penny in March of 1865 while the 16th president was still alive. Lincoln loudly protested and congress tabled the issue.

Fact number two: The first US penny was minted in 1787, designed by none other than Benjamin Franklin. The coin featured a sun and a sundial on the front above the message: "Mind your own business."
