It's Friday. Pizzamas rolls on.

Today's video is like the decathlon– it comes to you in ten very special parts.  Parts one through five are encouraging, parts six through eight are discouraging,  and parts nine and ten are couraging-neutral. Part one, encouraging tuberculosis news!  So Partners in Health helped fund the endTB trials, which found shorter and  less toxic regimens that can still cure multidrug-resistant tuberculosis.  And just last week, those new regimens were adopted as recommended regimens  by the WHO, which is a huge deal. It means that shorter, better treatment regimens  will be available to many more people.

Often things in global health move very slowly.  This moved reasonably quickly and I just want to celebrate that. Part two, speaking of tuberculosis, and God knows I like to, the End TB Now Act  just passed the US Senate unanimously. This is a law that would require US-funded  government TB projects to implement truly comprehensive care.

So the  search, treat, and prevent strategy that we know works and that you've heard me talk about  ad nauseam, it would do that for every US government-funded TB project in the world.  It's a big deal. But now it has to pass the US House of Representatives, and I don't know  if you know anything about Congress, Hank, but Congress does struggle to pass a law  these days. Like if Congress  were on fire, it would  struggle to pass the Pour Water on Congress Act.

And that's why the TBFighter community  is asking you to call your congressperson. There is more info in the doobly-doo,  but this is the rare phone call that could actually save lives. Part three, sometime in the next week to ten days, I will have a large-ish tuberculosis-related  announcement of my own that will also explain why I'm currently signing 100,000 sheets of paper.

Part four, some non-tuberculosis encouragement. You may have seen that AFC Wimbledon’s stadium  was heavily flooded by an unprecedented flooding of the River Wandle, like, so heavily flooded  that the pitch looked kind of like a golf course. And a club like Wimbledon that is owned and  funded entirely by its fans has no, like, secret stash of money to deal with such crises,  which is not encouraging news.

But in encouraging news, the whole football world  came together to raise over £100,000 to support Wimbledon as we rebuild from this crisis.  To me, it's a reminder of two things. One, people are generous and when they know  about problems, they really work hard to address them together. And two, football matters.  I mean, it doesn't matter,  but of all the unimportant  things, it's the most important thing.

I'm sorry, we clearly didn't order enough. I think my favorite thing  available right now is the hot sauce. We send you four bottles of hot sauce throughout the year,  and like anybody who had the hot sauce last year can tell you, it is *chef’s kiss* epic hot sauce.  It's a pretty good deal, and the sauce keeps it hot like Pizza John.

Part seven, further discouraging news. So it's been almost exactly a year since  Nerdfighteria helped convince the multinational conglomerate Danaher to lower the price of their  tuberculosis tests. Now, that is awesome, that's, like, one of the most amazing things this  community has ever accomplished.

But you'll recall that, as part of that deal,  Danaher promised to pay for and release an independent audit of the costs of making those  tuberculosis tests. They said they would do that. It has been a year, and they haven't.  It would be very nice to know exactly how much Danaher is profiting off   the world's poorest people, and they promised they would tell us that,  but they haven't, which is frustrating.

So, Danaher, let's make some eye contact real quick.  I don't want to do this again, I don't think you want to do this again.  Release the results of the audit. In fact, if it's helpful,   I'll give you a deadline, sometimes that helps me. Release the results  of the audit by October 14.

All right, cool. Glad we had this talk. Part eight.

So, a while back, this amazing thing called the Global Fund was founded to fight TB,  HIV, and malaria, and it’s been incredible. I am such a fan of the Global Fund, it has saved  so many lives. But one  ongoing frustration is that,  as you can see here, tuberculosis causes more  death than either HIV or  malaria, but only receives  18.5% of the Global Fund’s money.

Experts, including experts hired by the Global Fund,  agree that a greater percentage of the pie needs to go to tuberculosis,   and also that the pie itself needs to get much bigger. If you're able to sign  a petition to that effect, there is a link in the doobly-doo. It only takes like 30 seconds.

Part nine, neutral news. Did you know that we made a vinyl of The Anthropocene Reviewed?  I don't think it's available anymore, like, I'm not trying to sell anything to anyone,  it just, it makes me so happy to know this exists.
