Sure, we'd be free from viral infections but a ton of other stuff could happen. For starters, a lot of the biodiversity in the ocean comes from viruses.
This is because they infect other organisms a lot. Viral infections in the ocean alone happen 10^23 times every second. Sometimes when a virus infects a host cell it ends up introducing some new genetic information.
And that can lead to new codes for new traits which could lead to helpful adaptations. Viruses also kill about 20% of ocean microbes every day and other organisms can get important nutrients from the remains of those dead microbes. So if we got rid of all viruses that would massively affect pretty much all of Earth's organisms.
