Harriet: I don't understand.

Emma: I know. It's complicated and devious and it has to be executed perfectly, and it's my best plan yet.

Harriet: But I don't know if I'm comfortable being on video singing.

Emma: Now is the time to be bold. A faint heart never won fair senator.

Harriet: (sigh)

Emma: Do you think Kate Middleton would be the mother of the future king of England had she not gathered up her courage and walked down that college runway wearing an open-weave dress?

Harriet: No, she wouldn't?

Emma: Mmm. She made her play and got her man. Now it's your turn. You are going to let Senator Elton know that you understand his feelings and reciprocate. Through the gift of song.

Harriet: Oh, but what song am I going to sing?

Emma: Oh, I've already written you one. Learn it and we'll record the video before he gets here.

Harriet: Oh. I don't know if I can--

Emma: Of course you can, because you are Harriet Smith and with Emma Woodhouse as your spirit animal nothing can stop you.

     (Title)

(Harriet strums a chord and Emma claps)

Emma: I believe you got it.

Harriet: Just as long as I can keep the sheet music beside me the whole time.

Emma: Of course. When this works, you will be looking for apartments in Sacramento in no time.

Harriet: Oh, I didn't think about that.

Emma: Think about what?

Harriet: Moving. I mean, the senator--James--is amazing, but this is all happening so fast.

Emma: Well, you won't have to move right away. I foresee two to three months of the long distance thing, weekend trips to see each other.

Harriet: But still, how can I be your assistant and live in Sacramento?

Emma: Harriet, I will never make you choose between work and a guy, but the truth is, I don't expect you to be my assistant by this time next year anyways.

Harriet: You don't? Am I that bad?

Emma: No, no, you're that good! No one should be an assistant forever, especially not you. Someday soon you're going to have an idea for your own company and you're going to pitch it, build it, and run it. And I will simply be the lucky person who discovered your talents.

Harriet: But we won't see each other anymore.

Emma: Of course we will. Over these past couple months you become more than my assistant. You're my friend.

Harriet: Good friends.

Emma: And if the unfortunate circumstance of me matching you up with State Senator James Elton is that I lose my assistant a little bit earlier than expected, I still get to keep my friend.

Emma: He's coming. Get in position.

Harriet: What should I do?

Emma: Just. Act natural.

James: Knock knock. Oh, sorry, am I interrupting?

Emma: Senator! I thought our appointment was for three.

James: No, I had us down for two.

Emma: I am so sorry, there must be some miscommunication.

James: I'm sure it was on my end. I would never presume that
you or Harriet would make such a mistake.

Emma: Well since you're here, perhaps you'd like to stay? After all, you did say you wanted to see Harriet sing a song.

James: Oh, is that what's going on?

Harriet: Actually, it's for you.

James: For me?

Harriet: The song. To say thank you for the tickets. Emma wrote it.

James: Did you? It seems that both you ladies have hidden talents.

Emma: We were going to send you a video of it, but since you're here you'll just have to watch it live.

James: I've never had a song composed in my honor. I can't wait to here it.

Emma: Ready?

Harriet: As I'll ever be.

     (Harriet strums)

     (James and Emma applaud)

James: Bravo! What a wonderful song! If only I could use that on my campaign.

Emma: That's not exactly a campaign subject.

James: "So I might picture you with me, and picture it perfectly". If I could campaign on that I'd win in a landslide. I think I know what it means, too.

Emma: I'm thrilled you loved it.

James: Absolutely. Harriet, would you mind singing it one more time?

Harriet: Oh, um, again? Really?

James: This time I want to record it. Just for me.

Emma: I don't see why not, right Harriet? Just for James.

     (James's watch beeps)

     (Harriet strums)

Harriet: (singing) And picturing perfectly!

Alex: Emma, you do realize that "entranced" and "remembrance" don't rhyme, right?

Emma: Hmm. I will not take artistic criticism from someone whose idea of lyricism is a good PowerPoint presentation.

James: Nor should you. Rhyming words hardly matter in this day and age. It's still a wonderful song. I don't think it could be done better.

Harriet: Good, because I think I'm losing my voice.

Emma: Oh no! Why don't you get yourself some tea?

Harriet: I hope you enjoyed the song, James.

James: More than you will ever know, Harriet.

Emma: Thank you so much for indulging us. I'm sure you didn't expect to spend your day being serenaded.

James: Not at all; it was great fun. And I'll definitely be sharing my video with you. Again, I'm... incredibly flattered that you would write a song for me.

Emma: Harriet's the one who can sing.

James: And she did so. Beautifully.

Emma: I fully support your admiration for her. She's very dear to me.

James: And I understand the need to be... circumspect. We are working together after all.

Emma: Right. Well, since it's been a few weeks, we should get on with why you're here. It is time to set you up on a date or two. I have compiled a list of women who I think would be--

James: You know, I think you can set that aside.

Emma: Really?

James: I just don't think she's on your list. Besides, I was under the impression that... you had already found someone for me.

Emma: James, you have no idea how glad I am to hear you say that.

James: (relieved sigh)
