Well I think, I hope this movie is optimistic about being a teenager and about how smart and intellectually engaged teenagers are and I also hope that the response of the movie shows that again.
Well it's about friendship and I think maybe friendship is the only thing, at least in my life, like, it's the only thing that's held me together throughout my whole life. I've been lucky to have a marriage, a wonderful marriage for the last eleven years but I've had friends for even longer than that that held my life together. So it's a movie about all kinds of love, romantic love, but also the love between friends.
There's the sort of narrative mystery of this young man trying to figure out where the girl he has a crush on has disappeared to. but within that is the larger mystery of this young man learning that he has to imagine the girl he likes more complexly.
