The 2024 Crash Course Coin is here! These limited-release coins are small tokens, but they represent something massive: your ability to help us reach 2,000, 10,000, or 20,000 learners. This year, the coin showcases figs, which, for us, represent growth and knowledge.

Archaeological evidence suggests that figs are one of the earliest cultivated crops, dating back more than 11 thousand years and actually pushing back previous understandings of when human agriculture began. The design reminds us that when we get curious about the world around us, we discover and create new knowledge. And that project of meaning-making connects us to the earliest humans, and all the generations yet to come, all around the world.

People like you make it possible for Crash Course to keep providing high-quality educational material that’s accessible and free. Thank you for purchasing coins, supporting us on Patreon, and sharing our videos.

Since 2012, Crash Course has produced more than 50 series made up of over 1,500 videos, covering not only the foundational courses of high school and early college but also filling gaps in our education systems around topics like Black American history, climate change, and artificial intelligence.

We’ve done all of that — educating hundreds of millions of viewers around the world — without charging them a single penny. That doesn’t seem possible, and it didn’t have to be.

Things don’t exist in worlds where they cannot, but in this world, something happened that made Crash Course possible. And that was your generous support. It’s become a tradition that each year, we produce a new Crash Course Coin.

This beautiful object is minted in Arkansas from hand-engraved dies, and each one represents your ability to help us reach thousands of learners. They quite literally make Crash Course free for everyone forever. Last year, funds from the coin let us expand in some really exciting new ways.

We released our first long-form, documentary-style Crash Course lecture, in which John finally got to say everything he wanted to say about tuberculosis. You do not want to miss this video — it will change how you think about…just about everything. And together, with more awareness and advocacy, we really believe we can  end tuberculosis for good.

Coin funds also let us launch Crash Course Pods, our first-ever podcast series. This season is all about the universe — how it started, how it’s changed, and how it will maybe, eventually end? With our latest series on Art History, you’ll see us experimenting with new visual styles, new soundscapes, a whole new vibe but the same Crash Course heart.

And we want to do more. We want to reach more learners with more topics that matter to them, not only because we want students to pass high school and college — although we’re so, so proud to help with that. And we’re over the moon to hear the many, many stories of folks whose careers in a particular field started years ago with a Crash Course video.

But we also want to make more Crash Course because we want to figure out together what the heck is happening all around us, all the time. We’re currently working on Crash Course Religions and Crash Course Political Theory, which explore some of the biggest questions we can think of. Like, “how do we make meaning?” and “how do we live together in community?” And we’re gearing up to create a series on Sex Ed, which will cover all the things you wish you learned in school about sex, relationships, and, of course, anatomy.

We want to bring you these series and more, but we can’t do it alone. So, I’m excited to unveil the 2024 Crash Course Coin, available for 11 days only. This year’s gorgeous design showcases figs, which, for us, represent growth and knowledge.

Archaeological evidence suggests that figs are one of the earliest cultivated crops, dating back more than 11,000 years and actually pushing back previous understandings of when human agriculture began. The design reminds us that when we get curious about the world around us, we discover and create new knowledge. We grow.

And that project of meaning-making connects us to the earliest humans, and all the generations yet to come, all around the world. For $100, you can help us reach 2,000 learners and receive a beautiful copper coin. For $500, you can help us reach 10,000 learners  and receive a bi-metal  bronze and nickel-silver coin with a hand-stamped unique number and a signed thank you card from me and my brother John.

And for those able to give $1,000, you can help us reach 20,000 learners and receive a super-cool, specialty titanium coin. And of course, for our patrons passing the three-year mark of supporting us on Patreon this year, there's also a special Patron coin available just for you. We’re so excited for what’s in store, and equally excited to invite folks who are able to be a part of our work in this way.

Your purchase of the coin at any level will allow us to keep growing, pursuing curiosities, and inspiring learners everywhere. The 2024 Crash Course coins are only available until June 7th, and we’re only making a limited quantity. Go to CrashCourseCoin.com now or check the description for a link, and be a part of our work.

Thank you.
