Hank: There's a fluid in your body that you've probably never heard of, and it can help keep tabs on your health.
I'm talking about interstitial fluid, and if you don't know about interstitial fluid - gosh! It makes up 14% of your body weight. It's this oxygen and nutrient-packed water around your cells. Since is pretty much everywhere in your body, it's actually way more accessible than blood, which is great for diabetics, because they can use devices called "continuous glucose monitors" to check their blood sugar levels by sampling that interstitial fluid.
The monitors look like fancy bandaids, and they come with tiny sensors. And instead of having to, say, wake up in the middle of the night for a finger prick, the monitor can sample your interstitial fluid every few minutes for up to a week at a time before being replaced. And because they test the fluid so often, they can warn you right away when it's time for some fruit juice, and help you make informed food and exercise choices - no finger-stabbing needed!
