These limo bean plants get bugs to do their dirty work for them. When they're in danger of being eaten by an insect like a mite, these beans can call out to other mites for protection, except these ones are carnivorous. Beans and can't run away or actually scream for help, but when something starts munching on their leaves, they can release chemicals into the air called volatile organic compounds or VOCs, and these VOCs are also found in some insects, which is why predators head towards the lima beans to eat whatever's attacking them. This tactic is called indirect defense, and the more damage to the leaves. The louder the plants call for help because they release more and more of those VOCs, so don't pick on lima beans their bigger, scarier buddies are right behind them.
