You know why Siamese cats have those super cute little mittens? It's because they're mutants.

They have a mutated version of the enzyme tyrosinase, which is involved in making the pigment melanin; specifically, their tyrosinase just doesn't work at the average cat-body temperature. That's why most of their bodies are that kind of like cream color, but not their extremities. Their paws, noses, tails, and ears are all a little bit colder than the rest of their bodies; that's because they have more surface area compared to volume, so heat escapes more easily. That means tyrosinase actually works there, and those areas get melanin. Also, newborn Siamese cats are born all white, so you can watch tyrosinase work in real time as they get older.
