We're generally encouraged to avoid radioactive stuff, so this seems like it would be a bad idea. Radiation exposure can damage DNA, which can lead to runaway cell division and increase your risk of things like getting cancer. But radiation is also medically useful in small doses, like as a cancer treatment, and we also can use it for diagnosing illnesses, too. Take the medical test for gastroparesis, a condition that slows down the digestive tract, and can lead to things like intestinal blockage and malnutrition.

The test requires you to eat a light breakfast, often of toast and eggs and one special ingredient - a radioactive tracer. Once you've polished off those radioactive eggs, your doctor can use a scanning device to figure out your gastric emptying rate, or how long it takes for food to go down from your stomach and pass into your GI tract.
