Niba: Vegetarians smell better, according to science.
Everybody's got their own unique smell, and one of the factors influencing that smell is your diet. And it turns out that how you smell can also play a role in developing romantic relationships.
So, a controlled experiment published in the journal, Chemical Senses, put vegetarians against meat-eaters in an odor showdown. It was, admittedly, a super heteronormative study that had men eat either red meat or no meat for two weeks, and in the last 24 hours, they had cotton pads in their armpits to soak up their sweat. Then women could sniff those cotton pads and rate them on a scale from 1-7 based on pleasantness and attractiveness. A month later, the men swapped diets and did it all over again.
When the results came in, the non-meat diet resulted in higher overall ratings, meaning that the same person was rated more attractive when they hadn't been eating meat. But the jury's still out on pescatarians.
