Emma: Welcome back! Where do I begin. It has been quite a month of changes around here.
Although the Eltons high profile and high maintenance engagement party went well, some people enjoyed it more than others. But I took it as a sign that it's time to grow and evolve. Bigger and bolder! We are not just bettering the life of one person, but bettering something greater and grander.
I am Emma Woodhouse, and I will make the world better. With some help.
[Emma Approved opening theme]
Emma: And by help I mean amazingly talented and lovely people, like Alex Knightly, Harriet Smith, and Jane Fairfax. ... Jane Fairfax. ... Jane Fairfax!
Jane: I'm sorry, were you talking to me?
Emma: Some people need to learn how to hit a cue.
Jane: How did you know I was out here.
Emma: I know things. Don't be shy.
Jane: I'm not shy, it's strange.
Emma: Just open up and relax. It's just a camera, it doesn't bite.
Jane: But who's going to see this when it's done?
Emma: Everyone!
Jane: Or possibly no one?
Emma: So pessimistic.
Jane: Sorry, it's just, recording everything? Particularly in a place of business?
Emma: It's all part of the business! You'll get used to it, just forget the camera's there. Even Alex did, after a few... months.
Jane: Just business.
Emma: Business, publicity, amazingness! That's what it's there for, embrace it!
Jane: But is it necessary?
Emma: Why don't you tell me about the hygienic H2O project.
Jane: Didn't you get my email?
Emma: I did.
Jane: That's the latest.
Emma: Would you mind repeating it?
Jane: Why? Was there something you didn't understand?
Emma: No, not for me, for them!
Jane: Oh. Who are they? Exactly?
Emma: So this morning you got off the phone with the hygienic H2O project.
Jane: I did.
Emma: And...?
Jane: And they said they'd come aboard as partners!
Emma: And what does that mean?
Jane: It means for our next few fundraisers, they'll be assisting with promotion.
Emma: And we will be...
Jane: We will be building awareness to provide clean water across the world.
Emma: That's incredible! You're an asset and a half, Jane Fairfax. See that wasn't so hard.
Jane: It's still strange.
Emma: You'll get used to it. Just, ask me a question.
Jane: Okay. So... How's the search for our next fundraiser?
Emma: What do you mean?
Jane: Our next fundraiser. Bringing in partners isn't going to mean anything if there's nothing to partner on.
Emma: I'm working on it! You know that summer's always a bit slow.
Jane: I can make some phone calls if you need help!
Emma: Don't be silly! You just keep doing what you do, and I will do what I do, and we will succeed together!
Jane: Sounds great.
Emma: Just keep getting us those partners.
Jane: Don't worry, I will.
[Jane exits]
Emma: So that was Jane Fairfax. Well, sort of. She'll warm up. I know, I know, I've had my fair share of misgivings about her. But she's more than qualified. And I am going to make this work.
She is a genuine social justice advocate. In fact, if she was any more involved, I'd have to sew her a cape and cut her a mask.
That being said, she's not very camera comfortable, which as you can imagine, sticks out like a flip-flop at a five star. She's going to have to warm up to the camera. Like some other people I know.
Alex: Are you talking about me?
Emma: See, now that's how you hit a cue!
Alex: What?
Emma: Never mind. What's going on?
Alex: Nothing. Just checking in, wanted to see how you were getting along with Jane.
Emma: Jane's great.
Alex: Okay... Really?
Emma: Yes. You think I'm tormenting her don't you.
Alex: No... Maybe... Are you?
Emma: No! Unless you count putting her in front of the camera.
Alex: Um, that could be considered-
Emma: See, not tormenting!
Alex: I know you'll find this hard to believe, but some people prefer their privacy.
Emma: People won't remember your greatness if you keep it private.
Alex: But, people tend to get more done when they aren't focused on getting attention.
Emma: Are you calling me inefficient?
Alex: No.
Emma: Are you saying Jane is more efficient than me?
Alex: No, I'm saying that Jane is complimentary to you, to us, and what we do. She works hard, she bring in the partners, and she's a good fit around here.
Emma: So...
Alex: So, work with her. And remember to be nice.
Emma: I'm nice! ... I'm usually nice!
Alex: I know. Just, make her feel welcome.
Emma: You're right! I will.
Alex: Good.
[Jane's office]
Jane: What's going on?
Emma: Come, sit! In your seat.
Jane: What's that?
Emma: My gift to you!
Jane: And it's on now?
Emma: Always.
Jane: Okay. Does it have to stay here?
Emma: Everyone has a camera in their office, it's kind of the rules.
Jane: That's very Big Sister, Emma.
Emma: Ah, You're welcome! I'm so glad that you think of me as a sister!
Jane: That's not what I-
Emma: And see now you're really part of the team. You're getting us water partners, you have a cute office and you have a camera to document our greatness!
Jane: I'm not sure about this.
Emma: You're right. I'll pick up some things to decorate the space. Show off that legendary Jane Fairfax personality.
Jane: Actually, I think this space is-
Emma: Emma and Jane. No no. Jane and Emma! Making the world better together!
