Harriet: Emma?

Emma: What? Oh, shoot!

Harriet: That's okay, I got it.

Emma: Oh, thank you.

Harriet: Oh, these are the quarter four budget projections Maddy asked for. Where'd you find these?

Emma: Um, they were on Alex's desk. I was walking by.

Harriet: Well I'll send these over to Maddy later. Are you ready?

Emma: Ready?

Harriet: To install your new accounting software. You asked me to help you trying it out.

Emma: Oh, right. I don't know where I went wrong. I followed the directions.

Harriet: It can be tricky. But Alex showed me how to set it up last time he updated his copy.

Emma: You know what, Harriet? We shouldn't make Maddy wait for those projections! Why don't you run over there, walk her through them and see if there's anything else she needs.

Harriet: Are you sure?

Emma: In fact, take her to lunch on us. You can spend the whole day with her.

Harriet: What about your software?

Emma: I am Emma Woodhouse! I can figure this out. By myself.

(Theme song plays)

Emma: Thanks so much for coming in. I know it's been a while since we called you but, well, I have no idea how to do this.

Martin: Was that a new office I saw set up?

Emma: Yes, it's for Jane Fairfax. Or, was. She's gone now.

Martin: And I haven't seen Alex anywhere...

Emma: He's gone too.

Martin: And Harriet?

Emma: Also gone. But just for the day. So, we should get down to it!

Martin: O-okay. (typing on computer keys)

Emma: So, Martin, how've you been?

Martin: Fine.

Emma: I still have the wrist cushion that you gave me!

Martin: Yeah...yeah I can see that.

Emma: I think it's working too! See- no carpal tunnel here!

Martin: Cool!

Emma: How are the birds?

Martin: Good, actually I just added a... (Computer makes a noise) Oh, your install is finished. You're all set.

Emma: Thanks again. Can you check on Harriet's computer too? She shouldn't be back today.

Martin: Right.

Emma: But it's okay if she did. I just didn't want to make things awkward for you or for her or...anyone.

Martin: Well I'll just go do that then...unawkwardly.

(to Harriet's office)

Harriet: Martin?

Martin: Oh, sorry, I'll be done soon.

Harriet: That's okay.

Martin: I thought you were out...

Harriet: I was supposed to take someone to lunch but, we couldn't go.

Martin: Oh, is everything okay?

Harriet: Yeah, Maddy just had to take her mom to the eye doctor, that's all. Umm, it's been a while!

Martin: It has! Things seem different here.

Harriet: They are. I got a promotion! It's been...good.

Martin: I wondered. I saw all the new projects on your desktop. Sorry- I didn't mean to be, you know, snoopy.

Harriet: Well, I didn't think you were sitting here daydreaming about being a fighter pilot.

Martin: Well, you know, pleasant day, pretty sky, life goes on, so do I.

Harriet: You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown! I love that musical!

Martin: Yeah, yeah it's pretty great.

Harriet: Snoopy's the best.

Martin: I always kinda related more to Charlie...

Harriet: Not the kind of guy who gives up easily?

Martin: Something like that... So, what's with all the spreadsheets?

Harriet: Oh, Alex has been teaching me the business side of things.

Martin: Oh, well I always knew you'd succeed. And Alex is a great mentor.

Harriet: He is! He really is.

Martin: And a great friend. I mean, he's always telling me to believe in myself and follow my passions.
(the computer dings)

Harriet: Seen any new birds?

Martin: Yeah! Yeah, actually I just added an Indigo Bunting to my life list. They don't normally come this far west so...

Harriet: What kind of bird is that?

Martin: Well I could show you.

Harriet: I'd love to see.

Martin: Okay, yeah.

Harriet: That's really beautiful!

Martin: Right?! I know a lot of people think bird watching is silly but...

Harriet: That's cool that you try to...appreciate everything around you.

Martin: Thanks.

Harriet: Would you like to come to lunch with me?

Martin: I can't. I have another job after this.

Harriet: Oh, rain check?

Martin: It doesn't really rain much in southern California.

(he leaves)

(to Emma's office)

Harriet: Emma? I'm back. Maddy had to take her mom to the doctor. Did you get your software fixed?

Emma: I did. I'm sorry if you ran into Martin, that was not my intention.

Harriet: It's okay. I'm glad you called him.

Emma: You are?

Harriet: Yeah. I've been really swamped lately. I appreciate you asking for more help.

Emma: Harriet, wait. You're right, I rely on you too much.

Harriet: Oh I didn't mean...

Emma: No, no I do, and I order you around, and I have, on occasion, tried to dictate what you can and can't do, and that's not right. You should be with someone who respects and values you and who sees you for who you are.

Harriet: I should?

Emma: No, what I mean is, you should date whoever you want to, no matter what I say. And, if that someone is Alex, then that's fine. That's good.

Harriet: Thanks, Emma. (she leaves)

Emma: When I think about this past year, it...it has been more than just bad matchmaking. Elton and Caroline, Frank and Jane, Harriet and...Alex. It's like I haven't even noticed how the people around me really feel. Not to mention how I feel about the people around me.

I am in... I realized that I... I thought it was just... But, it's not. I am in love with Alex Knightley. Have I really been this blind or have I just been lying to myself the whole time?

Well, that stops now. Because now I'm going to start paying attention to the people around me and how they really feel. I mean it.
