There's a forgotten fifth item in the "something old, something new" bridal poem. "Something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue." But don't cue the wedding bells just yet. Some versions of the poem, which cropped up during the Victorian era, feature a fifth line: "... and a sixpence in her shoe." In certain sources, it's a silver sixpence, and some even specify that the coin should be placed in the bride's left shoe. This might be to neutralize the bad luck long associated with the left foot. The UK hasn't used sixpence as legal currency since 1980, but you can buy old ones online.
