September 8th, 2016 Sexplanations published a video called How to Make Toy Vaginas that began with a story about one of Dr. Doe’s clients. He was seeking ways to express his sexuality without doing harm. In an effort to help her client she researched do it yourself sex toys and created a video demonstrating her findings.
.
After accumulating almost 32 million views in its nearly 10 years online, the video was removed by YouTube because YouTube determined the video violated community guidelines.

In the last year there has been an escalation in content removal so, feeling defeated already, I, Dr. Doe, chunked this removal onto the heap of disappointment and repressed the incident as quickly as I could. I actually started to repress Sexplanations as a whole. I didn’t relate to being a sexologist or a creator. As I’ve said recently, I backed off and cared for myself rather than fight the haters.

But then today, in a torrid effort to understand the rage, distrust, and grief we’re going through as a society I found my clever self again. I made a video intended to prevent violence and protect youth. It was removed for being sexually explicit content that features a minor. “There are no exceptions for educational, documentary, scientific, or artistic context.” I understand their reasoning. I also value my content for its context and intent. There is a solution. A third option. Magic wand, quick edit, upload. Content is available for its intended purpose.

Yes, I’m still confused and angry about what is going on (The Great Trauma) but while I work through those emotions and organize my thoughts and research, it is nice to return something to the world that I believe does good. FACRTRAC. Stay curious.
