Hank, we all saw you tweet this in July, and it turns out that sorta exists. There might be something in your digestive tract living off the hydrogen in your mucus. Its presence doesn't, like, automatically cause problems and might even be preventing things like GERD. But it can cause ulcers in your stomach and small intestine.
So, if you're not feeling well, it could be because of this little guy. And one way to find out if H. Pylrori is the culprit of your problems is by analyzing the gas that comes out of your digestive system. But in a missed opportunity, instead of a fart-sniffing machine we have breath analyzers.
But since H. Pylori eats your hydrogen, professionals can assess hydrogen levels in your breath. And they can test for urease, which is what this bacteria makes to increase the pH of your acidic stomach so it can survive there So if they don't detect signs of H. Pylori, you're less likely to have an ulcer
