Hank: So, there are birds that smell like tangerines. These lil' ones are called the crested auklet, which kind of looks like a cross between a penguin and a quail, and the smell comes from a special patch on their backs that secrete chemicals that smell like tangerines.
There are a couple hypotheses as to why, evolutionarily speaking, these little birds smell like this. One is that the chemicals in the scent can repel parasites like lice, so basically like bug spray. Another one is that females just like the scent; they bury their beaks on their necks where the scent is really strong in a move called a "ruff sniff."
Either way - bug pray or attracting partners - seems like a great excuse to smell amazing! Tangerine bird! I want one.
