Ooo! I like this one! Honestly, I'd never thought out about. Though it is a bit problematic that, if aliens came, we wouldn't really know what to call ourselves. "Citizens of Earth" "Terrans" or should we just go with the species and say "Humans" or "Homo Sapiens."

As for "Earth" it's just the english word, it comes from a germanic root, but it's not clear where it comes from after that. It originally just referred to dirt and ground. Then later, Earth as opposed to non-earthly things like heaven and hell. Later, that was expanded to include the whole planet when we, like, figured out what planets were. Words were around for a long time before we knew what planets were, remember!
