Hank: Good morning, John. It's me, your brother, and I'm taking a break today. Now I know what you're thinking. "You are uploading a video. You're current -- it's happening right now.
So when you say that you're not uploading a video today in a video that you uploaded today, that's weird." But here's what's different about it. I didn't think at all what was going to happen right now before I turn on the camera. I still got my lights around.
I still got everything set up. It's a beautiful thing, I've even got all my tabs still open here. I can refresh this and tell you that we have raised $3,673,295 and probably 69 cents is what I'm guessing cuz people are dedicated!
I can tell you that this is the number one Project For Awesome of all time by a fair margin. And I can tell you that I've had a post-Project For Awesome slump. This is what happens when you have a lot of dopamine, your body gets used to that sensation of -- of really that -- every time I've ever been to an event it's been like this.
All VidCon's I'm always like, "Oh my god! This is so amazing!" And then I get home. 3 days later, I can put it on the calendar. I'm going to be sad.
I'm going to be listless. I'm going to feel like nothing matters. Why doesn't anything matter?!
Suddenly I'm going to have a hard time sleeping. That's all because I'm having a dopamine withdrawal. I can put it on the calendar and I'm having it right now from the Project For Awesome.
And so maybe that's happening to you or maybe it happens to you other times. And that's something you should know about how you are a body that is full of chemicals and yes, you are an individual that has sensations and memories and a self. But in addition to that, you are a bag of water with chemicals in it.
And I'm very forgiving of us and why wouldn't I be? Because we look -- look at what we've made: Christmas lights, vodka, pickles, Beanie Sandfurbs, Hunk and Bunk the twins all wrapped up and ready for their hibernation. Have we made some mistakes?
Sure. Are we currently making a big one as a country? Yeah, uh huh, yeah we are.
And if this were a normal vlogbrothers video, it would have the kind of writing that would allow it to introduce ideas and then resolve them but it's not that kind of video. And so what's instead is happening is I'm just introducing ideas and then moving on. Because this isn't a real vlogbrothers video it's a video about how I'm not making a video.
And I'm not making video today and I don't think anybody is holding that against me. Just take a -- I also have to clean this office up. That's not going to be an insignificant day.
I signed all my frog cards though and I picked up 200 envelopes of confetti. I'm a -- I'm just coasting on that. You know, sometimes... sometimes the fuel is just remembering that I'm doing the things I need to do.
Uh...and maybe not all of them and maybe not in the order that they -- that would be like the best order. But I got my confetti all picked up. I got that task done and that's like, nice.
You know, one thing at a time and I should remember that if I don't take the time to be like, "yeah, I did that. Good job." Then I'm not going to have that fuel that I just got from recognizing that to do the next thing. I need to take the opportunity to grab that fuel while it's there, while I was like, "that's some fuel.
I'm going to use that." Cuz if I just like did that and I didn't even recognize that I -- I did the thing that I was supposed to do then I don't have any fuel to do the next thing. That's a good thing to remember!
Is this the end of the video? It could be! John, I'll see you on Tuesday.
