During late winter, we had a sever cold snap that left Gwendolyn the turkey vulture vulnerable in her outdoor enclosure. So we got creative and found a way to keep her warm and satisfied!

 Intro (0:09)

Hello and welcome back to Animal Wonders. I'm Jessi. Today, we're going to take a trip back a couple of months in time because I want to share something that happened earlier this year. As you know, we care for over 100 displaced animals at Animal Wonders and our priority is to make sure that they are comfortable, safe, and live a happy and healthy life. Well, I'm going to let Jessi from the past take over to share what happened.

 Past Jessi Intro (0:33)

Hi everyone! Welcome back to Animal Wonders. I'm Jessi, and it's a very cold day today. And it's been a very cold week. And that's not surprising for a winter in Montana, but we have some usual challenges that come with the cold weather, and today I'd like to share with you what we've done with one very special animal.

 Overwintering (1:06)

So this is where Gwendoline the turkey vulture is staying for the next couple days because it is very cold outside and this is her first winter here. So we wanted to make sure that she stayed nice and safe. This isn't a permanent solution for overwintering for Gwendoline, (to Gwendoline Hi, sweetheart), but it's what we have available right now until spring comes along, the ground thaws, and we're able to build a permanent solution.

You can see Gwen really likes to be part of the action. She always likes to come down and see what we're doing so we had to install this baby gate to make sure she didn't get into too much trouble.

Now normally Gwen has lots of straw to hang out in and many different types of perches, but we couldn't replicate that whole thing in here. So we put down some blankets and brought in her favourite perch. I don't know if she's ever been around blankets before, but she seems to really like them. She's been taking this blue one and moving it around and making a little nest with it.

She's been inside for about two days now, and she's settled in, but I think she's starting to get bored. And I can tell because she started to pull apart little things that she probably shouldn't be pulling apart, huh? Yeah.

So I'm really interested to see if she wants to play with some new enrichment items. Alright, so I've got this bundle of little toys and I'm hoping that she likes one of these things. So, let's go ahead and see if she likes them.
