In 1518, a woman began to dance uncontrollably–and things didn’t stop there. In the weeks that followed, hundreds of people joined her. We still don’t know what caused the so-called Dancing Plague of Strasbourg–or all the other dancing hysterias through history–but that doesn’t mean we can’t learn from what it can reveal about the dark powers of groupthink.
