why do cats make the chirping sound? these sounds have been officially divided into very adorable categories of chatter, chirp, tweet, and tweedle and both domestic and wild cats make them. At first glance this might not make sense because these kitties are walking up to their prey as quietly and unnoticeably as possible, and then like announcing their presence they're totally giving themselves away. but these chirps are actually pretty similar to the sounds that rodents and birds make. researchers think some wild cats and their domesticated descendants use these sounds to mimic the animal they're approaching and lure their prey toward them, instead of scaring them off. so, cats are basically saying hey Tweety it's your buddy it's Phil let's hang out and then Tweety never sees their buddies again.
