VIEWER-SUBMITTED IDEA! Hank Green explains everything we would ever want to know about koalas... including their pooping habits.

If you don't know who Hank Green is, you haven't spent enough time on YouTube, or the Internet. He is behind initiatives such as: VidCon, Project4Awesome, DFTBA Records, Crash Course and SciShow. He's one half of the Vlogbrothers, and just an incredible vlogger, musician, and human being.

He's been a big supporter of my work for a few years now, and provided me with guidance, inspiration, and now, a song about koalas and their pooping habits. DFTBA - check out Hank and the Vlogbrothers.

LYRICS
Koalas spend up to eighteen hours a day taking frikkin naps
And with a leafy diet high in fiber, they need to take a lot of craps
While they sleep their oversized cecum pouch digests eucalyptus leaves
And so they developed an adaptation to save their energy
Koalaaaaas, they poop in their sleep (poop in their sleep)
They have very low metabolic rate and a diet that's caloricly weak
Koalaaaaas, they poop in their sleep (poop in their sleep)

You might think you know a lot about Koalas, but you don't know everything. For example did you know that Koala populations are currently suffering from an outbreak of Chlamydia? In addition to Chlamydia, koala populations are adversely effected by habitat loss, road crossings, domestic dog attacks, and climate change.

Female Koalas have two vaginas and the males have a forked, or bifurcated penis, which is actually very common in marsupials but still freaks me out.

Koalas are estimated to generate $1 Billion for Australia's tourist industry. Additionally, they are much less adorable when they are skeletons and even more adorable when they are babies.

And now you know some real facts about Koalas..

Hello Gunnarollans! My name is Hank Green and I make YouTube videos. Koalas are fascinating animals. They have adapted to an unexploited evolutionary niche that allows them to exist entirely competition free.

They are the only animals capable of digesting the harsh and toxic leaves of the eucalyptus tree. There's so little nutrition in these leaves that koalas have to remain dormant for much of the day leading to some peculiar adaptations...

Koalaaaas, they poop in their sleep (They poop in their sleep)
Oh, koalaaaas, they, they want us to say, they, want us to say,
They poop in their sleep!
