Back in the 1980s, researchers studying animal venom reported that Gila monster venom caused pancreatic enlargement in guinea pigs. Then in the 1990s, another researcher teamed up with that first group to isolate and identify a hormone from the reptile's saliva called exendin-4 which happened to be a lot like a human hormone called glucago
