Harriet: Emma, you have to help me, what do I do?
Emma: You have to give him an answer. He put a lot of work into making that, and it deserves a response in person so he cannot misunderstand you.
Harriet: Right. Okay. I can do that. Oh, what do I say? How do I respond?
Emma: Harriet, I can't tell you that, this is your decision.
Harriet: But I don't know what to do, I'm so confused!
Emma: Which is why I'm here to help you.
(Emma Approved intro plays)
Harriet: Okay. Help me.
Emma: Great! Let's roleplay.
Harriet: Sure. Who am I?
Emma: You are someone looking for life advice.
Harriet: Okay, and who are you?
Emma: I'm an expert in life style excellence.
Harriet: That's familiar.
Emma: Keep it simple. Let's begin. Tell me about yourself.
Harriet: You already know everything about me.
Emma: Role playing.
Harriet: Oh, right. Um, I'm 23, a recent college graduate, and an executive assistant.
Emma: Do you like what you do?
Harriet: Yes, very much, I have a great boss.
Emma: Obviously. So, Harriet, executive assistant with her bright future ahead of her, what are your goals?
Harriet: I want to help people, I want to help the world, and I want to learn as much as I can.
Emma: That's noble of you. And what about romance, are there any men in your life?
Harriet: Well, there's one, I know he likes me.
Emma: Tell me about him.
Harriet: Well, he's sweet and kind and likes computers, poker, and birds.
Emma: Sounds great, but this is important, what are his goals?
Harriet: I...I don't know. I'm not sure if he has any.
Emma: Well, someone without goals isn't really a man, he sounds like he's more of a boy.
Harriet: Oh, but he's still sweet and kind.
Emma: Well, does being sweet and kind align with your goals? Helping the world is ambitious! Someone like that needs an equally driven partner. Ambitious people never settle.
Harriet: Oh.
Emma: Great! That was a fun exercise, right?
Harriet: Right.
Emma: How do you feel?
Harriet: Do you think Martin's ambitious?
Emma: Harriet, what I think isn't important. You know Martin the best, this is your life, it's your choice.
Harriet: Right.
Emma: If you think Martin has all of the requirements that you're looking for in a partner, and I mean all of the requirements, then you should say yes.
Harriet: I should?
Emma: As long as you are absolutely, 100% completely confident in your decision.
Harriet: Completely confident?
Emma: Yes, no doubts at all.
Harriet: What if I have a few little doubts?
Emma: No doubts allowed when you're confident! Be sure about your decision! Are you sure? Are you confident?
Harriet: I don't know. Am I confident about Martin or am I confident about my doubts? I'm so confused!
Emma: Come here, come here. These are the hardest things you will ever have to figure out. If they were easy, I'd have no purpose.
Harriet: Well, I do have doubts. So I guess I should turn him down?
Emma: Is that your decision? Find your confidence.
Harriet: Yes. I don't want to settle.
Emma: Well, I wasn't going to tell you my opinion, but now that you have made up your own mind, I will say I think you've made the right decision.
Harriet: I did?
Emma: Of course you did! Martin is great, but Harriet, you deserve so much more. You need to be with someone successful, worldly, fascinating, exciting. With Martin, you will watch him play poker while he fixes computers.
Harriet: You're right. I know what I have to do.
Emma: No, you're right. You do what you have to do, and you do it with confidence.
Harriet: Right.
Emma: You stand tall, look him in the eye, and say what you have to say.
Harriet: I will.
Emma: You'll thank yourself one day.
Harriet: Just not today. Wish me luck.
Emma: Luck! Hello, I am Emma Woodhouse. James Elton? Yes, your name does sound familiar. State Senator James Elton. Yes, and how can I help you, Senator Elton? Absolutely, you called the right woman. That's my specialty! Why don't we set up an orientation phone call for sometime next week, and then we can go from there? Perfect, I'll talk to you then. Sorry, Maddy Bates, but I'm not going to be able to make it to lunch!
Emma: You have to give him an answer. He put a lot of work into making that, and it deserves a response in person so he cannot misunderstand you.
