Dr Lindsey Doe: The last episode was entirely about trivia: I was quizzing you on things that are really insignificant. This episode I want to be entirely about the things that ARE important. What I want you to know in order to protect yourself, have a healthy sexuality or make decisions about the sexuality you want to have.

I'm going to say the topic and then I'm going to say one short info-bit I think you deserve while you wait for the episode to come out as a whole.

(Intro)

Vaginismus: Clenching of the vaginal muscles so much so that it prevents penetration of a finger, a tampon, a speculum, a penis. And if this is a problem, your go-to professionals are sexologists and gynecologists.

Visiting a gynecologist: The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists recommends seeing a gynecologist between the ages of 13 and 15. You can postpone a pelvic exam until 21 or within three years of becoming sexually active.

HPV: One of the major reasons to get a pelvic exam is to see if there's any HPV. The Human Papilloma Virus - 50% of people will have it at some point in their lives. There are 30 strains that cause warts and another 10 that are cancer causing. You can prevent some but not all strains, with…

Gardasil: The HPV vaccine - the first vaccine to prevent cancer. It doesn't cover all of the virus's strains, but it does cover some of those that are majorly problematic. All sexes can benefit from the vaccine and are recommended to get its THREE doses between the ages of 11 and 26.

Getting Tested: When you're getting an STI screening, make sure that you know what you're getting tested for and what you're NOT getting tested for. Also make sure that if you don't have symptoms, you're STILL getting tested because of bacterial infections like…

Chlamydia: Most of the cases of chlamydia are asymptomatic - meaning there are no symptoms or signs of infection. And luckily, when you get treated for chlamydia you will also get treated for…

Gonorrhea!: Was nicknamed 'The Clap'. One of the explanations talks about how the ill who were once treated by taking the penis between two boards and [man is heard yelling off screen while Dr. Doe claps her hands]. Ah, now we have antibiotics.

Vibrators: I want you to know what they're made of and how to clean them. If they have phthalates in them - p-h-t-h-a-l-a-t-e-s, make sure that there is a condom separating your body from the toy.

Cock Rings:  If they look big, it's because they're going around the cock AND balls. Don't use something rigid like wood or metal until you have much more experience - start with something malleable like licorice laces.

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome: P-C-O-S, is a lot of cysts- pockets of tissue that build up in the ovaries and make a big old mess. It affects 1 in 10 biosex females, their development and there fertility. Clues you might have it: irregular periods, obesity, hirsutism, which is fuzziness, and small breasts.

Polyamory: A simple definition is "loving more than one person at a time". Your go to resources would be Franklin Veaux, Tristan Taormino, Cunning Minx, Reid Mihalko...

Demisexuality: Sexual attraction that happens after a long emotional connection is already made.

Bisexuality: "Bi" referring to two may be the gender binary like males AND females, but more bisexuals are going with the meaning of "bi = two" as 'same' and 'different'.

BDSM: 4 letters, 6 words: Bondage, Discipline, Dominance, Submission, Sadism, Masochism.

Transgender: A type of identity that has NOTHING to do with who you're attracted to.

Inverted Nipples: 10 to 20% of nipples are inverted, meaning instead of going out they go in.

Circumcision: 90% of Sudanese women want their daughters to be circumcised so that they look like their momma's. Many American daddies use the same logic when circumcising their sons.

Pedophilia: In the words of James Cantor, "One cannot choose to not be a pedophile, but one CAN choose to not be a child molester."

Yeast infections: Bodies have yeast in them; this is natural and healthy. The yeast becomes an infection when the yeasties rise to become a white itchy substance that affects 75% of vaginas.

Talking to your kids: So many of you want to know how to talk to your kids. I suggest starting with consent, asking them when and how you can have those conversations with them. When you're ready, be honest with yourself: Are you supportive of their sexuality and pleasure?

Talking to your parents: Again, start with consent. 'Mom, can I talk to you about sex?'

Talking at a school: I love going to schools and talking to my audience face-to-face, doing Sexplanations. If you'd like to invite me to your program, then please let me know.

Also: Stay curious.
