Bomb-sniffing wasps at the airport! While this sounds wild, it could one day be a reality. Researchers have found out that a species of wasps can be trained to detect odors in a matter of minutes. They teach the wasps to associate specific scents with a reward and then respond accordingly. They then put the trained wasps into a device that's called, and I'm not kidding, the Wasp Hound. The Wasp Hound uses fans to draw in air from the surroundings for the wasp to sit when the wasps get a sniff of the scent that they've been trained on. They crowd at one end of the tube, which alerts the handlers that something is up. These wasps can be just as accurate as bomb-sniffing dogs, and making the sensors is much cheaper than training scent dogs if a little less adorable, so don't be surprised if you see.
