February 2nd is #WorldWetlandsDay, and this year I’ve teamed up with Audubon Great Lakes on a new video miniseries to highlight their work in the Calumet region on the southeast side of Chicago. Wetlands are critically important places that protect birds, improve water quality, and help our communities become more resilient in the face of changing climates - and World Wetlands Day is a chance for organizations across the world to recognize how essential these environments are for both people and wildlife.
Even though it was approaching Winter there were still plenty of interesting birds to be found, thanks in large part to my friend Kayla at AGL for her astute observations! If you want to get involved with their marsh bird monitoring program make sure to follow Audubon Great Lakes and visit gl.audubon.org to learn more.
Oh, and download the Audubon field guide app! That’s what I used to find more photos and audio recordings of these birds. What a cool resource!!
