Can you really become allergic to red meat? Yes. Alpha-gal is a sugar molecule found in many mammals, including pigs, cattle, and lamb. And yes, it is possible for the human immune system to become reactive to alpha-gal. So, if you have the antibodies, and you eat red meat, you could have an allergic reaction. So, how does one get this allergy. Growing evidence suggest that this sensitivity can develop from a tick bite.
